AAUW SCV Branch members have varied interests and have established many different groups over the years. Our current categories include: Evening Lit Evening Lit is a book club that reads fiction and non-fiction, popular choices and classics. Interested members meet in June and choose a list of books for the following year. On the first Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m., we meet at a member's home and discuss the author and the book. In the past we have invited author’s to attend a meeting to share their writing experiences: Lisa See signed books and enlightened us about Snow Flower and the Secret Fan; Edward Mooney, Jr. contributed to his Pearls of the Stoneman. Other authors have responded to our e-mail questions to explain their work. The 2009-2010 Evening Lit Selections include: September: Passing by Nella Larson and Native Son by Richard Wright Book Exchange Members who are interested in reading newly published, best selling hardcover books contribute a set amount for purchasing and then rotate the books on a printed schedule. Members make suggestions each year of both novels and non-fiction. Previous books have included Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, The Host by Stephanie Meyer, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski and Merle’s Door by Ted Kerasote. Lunch Bunch
Bridge Bridge groups include regular bridge, duplicate bridge, as well as summer and winter bridge marathons.The regular bridge groups meet at 7 p.m.on the second and fourth Thursday of each month while Duplicate Bridge meets on the 3 rd Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The schedule for the Summer and Winter Bridge Marathons changes annually.
