AAUW SCV Branch members have varied interests and have established many different groups over the years. Our current categories include:

Evening Lit

Evening Lit is a book club that reads fiction and non-fiction, popular choices and classics. Interested members meet in June and choose a list of books for the following year. On the first Wednesday of each month, at 6:45 p.m., we meet at a member's home and discuss the author and the book. In the past we have invited author’s to attend a meeting to share their writing experiences: Lisa See signed books and enlightened us about Snow Flower and the Secret Fan; Edward Mooney, Jr. contributed to his Pearls of the Stoneman. Other authors have responded to our e-mail questions to explain their work.

The 2011-2012 Evening Lit Selections include:

September: A Moveable Feast by Ernest Hemingway and The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
October: The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar
November: The Immortal Life of Henriette Lax by Rebecca Skloot
December: Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson
January: Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls
February: Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
March: The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
April: Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp (optional pre-read)
Let’s Take the Long Way Home by Gayle Caldwel
May: Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys
June: Potluck and selection process for next year’s reading choices

Wednesday Afternoon Movies

Mystery Literature

Holiday Brunch with author Joanna Fluke

The group meets the third Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Since the meetings are held at Barnes & Noble the group is open to everyone. The group discusses a selected mystery each month, and then chooses the next month’s selection. We read a very wide range of mysteries from many authors, which leads to lively and stimulating discussions. The December meeting is a Holiday Brunch in a private home.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch meets once a month in different restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley. Members take turns selecting a new or favorite local restaurant for good food and stimulating conversation. We meet at the restaurant on the third Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
Lunch at the Grand Panda 2009
